Week 02: Content Creation, Curation, Visual Grammar

This week was all about where content comes from and also who owns that content. We’ll look at sources of content, for example:

We were first introduced to a typical UX workflow, and from what kyle explained to us, a UX workflow is a sequence of steps that a designer takes throughout the UX design process, from user research and analysis to UX design and development. We were shown an example of a workflow diagram that highlights the different stages that designers can go through in their process.

We were then introduced to the typical sources in both UI and UX that help provide content to designers.   Where does content come from?

Client

The first and most obvious provider of content for designers, is clients who can give designers a run down of what their desired ideas for their product are. They can provide designers with likes of brand guidelines and databases of content for designers to work with.  Designers can also just give clients questionnaires to answer any questions that need to be answered to get a better understanding of how a client wants their content to be delivered. Clients can also just simply provide the designers with the text and images they would like to be featured on interfaces.

Self – Generated content

Though it may seem a bit more of a hassle, designers are also more than capable of creating their own content through the likes of surveys and making their designs available. I, in my own work have utilised surveys to help better understand my target audience and what content I should curate. It also helped me decide the tone of voice for my project, on how I should communicate to my audience.

Blogging

Keeping a documentation of experiences allows for a plethora of content and has great benefits for business. By creating quality blog content, businesses can reach a wider audience, engage potential customers, and build trust and credibility with their target market. Blogging helps drive more sales by boosting your brand awareness and improving the rankings of your product pages.
